How to Prepare for NAC
Two categories of devices will require updates to be prepared for NAC
IT-Managed
Devices that are Duke-owned and maintained by DHTS or another IT support group. A majority of devices are "IT-Managed".
User-Managed
Devices that are either personal-owned or Duke-owned and maintained solely by the user (i.e. Does not use IT services to manage device). Note: A limited number of employees manage their own devices.
How to Ensure Your Device is NAC Ready
IT-Managed
IT-Managed devices will update automatically to be in compliance with NAC requirements. If your device is IT-Managed, then it is unlikely you will need to take action. If you would like to check if your device is NAC ready, follow the steps in this document.
User-Managed
If a device is not registered, users will be required to register via a pop-up window for the registration page. For Windows machines, a browser window will pop-up automatically for the NAC portal when connecting to the wired network. For MAC & Linux machines, users will need to open a browser window, navigate to Duke.edu and it will redirect to the NAC portal. Finally, follow the steps in this document to register the device.
